Media Player Classic: interface

At the first glance it seems that MPC has no difference from Windows Media Player 6.4. But everything is not as simple as it seems to be :) In menus and options' tabs you can see plenty of functions, some of them are unique. That's the main window after opening the film:

Search bar

The most trivial search bar used to navigate the film or audiofile. If you press Shift button, you will seek by keyframes.

Control buttons

Control buttons look the same way as in Windows Media Player 6.4, but some of them have other functions. They are listed from left to right:

  • Play opened file
  • Pause
  • Stop playback
  • Previous file or fragment
  • Decrease playback speed
  • Increase playback speed
  • Next file or fragment
  • Frame by frame playback (One frame forward)

Informational panel

MPC shows info on the film or audio file which is taken from tags. If there is no info available, this panel is hidden.

Status bar

Different useful info is shown in the status bar of player. It shows file icon in normal mode, player's state, already played and general file duration (or number of frames for Macromedia Flash), sound icon (no sound/mono/stero). There's also info about current user's actions: if you change frame size, its relative position, scale and aspect ratio are displayed in the status bar. This info will disappear in ~ 4 seconds.

Sound regulation

A button allows you to turn sound on/off unexpectedly and volume control is not so radical and allows you to make it louder or more quiet :)
